Job Description

Envista Forensics addresses the growing demand by insurance claims and legal professionals for a global, multi-disciplinary and highly skilled forensic consulting partner. Envista Forensics is a global forensic consulting firm that provides a comprehensive array of technical services to the insurance and legal communities. We are currently seeking a Controller to support our global organization, based out of Deerfield, IL. 

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: The controller oversees the accounting functions including publishing global consolidated financial reports in accordance with USGAAP and maintaining effective internal controls.  The controller supports strategic decisions by providing timely and accurate financial analysis. Leads the financial integration of new companies including purchase accounting, preparation of consolidated pro-forma financials, and standardization of processes.  Responsible for coordination of activities for audits and tax filings including preparation of financial statements and other required documentation.  Communicates effectively within all areas of the company.  Manages team of accounting professionals.

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Reporting and Integration

  • Coordinates the preparation of the periodic consolidated financial reports including all US and international subsidiaries. Ensures intercompany transactions are properly accounted, calculates cumulative currency translations and verifies accuracy of overall results.  Maintains detailed accounting records including journal entries, account reconciliations, and other supporting close documentation.  Publishes detailed monthly reporting checklist including evidence of review.
  • Oversees all activities of general accounting team to verify close procedures are effectively executed. Effectively communicates progress and timelines to all stakeholders through verbal and written communication.  Resolves issues timely and appropriately. 
  • Issues timely financial statements and written analysis to key stakeholders including company president, divisional CFO, and corporate controller.
  • Prepares detailed periodic analysis of company performance against established and created benchmarks. Develops operating metrics as needed.
  • Communicates significant financial information to management and finance team including large variances to budget, estimated reserves, and revenue recognition risks.
  • Integrates new subsidiaries including chart of account mapping, financial statement creation, and standardization of processes.
  • Provides for a system of management cost reports.
  • Ensures intercompany ar/ap are reconciled and settled on a timely basis.
  • Provides financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, contract negotiations, and mergers/acquisitions.

 

Financial Strategy and Execution

  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with other members of the organization across departments, divisions, and locations; functions as an effective member of the team, assisting co-workers as needed and learning from colleagues and supervisors; supports the goals of the department, division, and organization; participates in special assignments and activities as required or approved; demonstrates initiative in the interest of the client and the organization.
  • Leads financial projects from identification to resolution. Develops solutions to business and financial problems as needed. Participates in cross functional teams.

 

Management

  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintains the chart of accounts.
  • Oversees the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the goals of the department in support of company objectives.
  • Oversees the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate relationships with the leadership team within the division and within other divisions.
  • Establishes and nurtures relationships with key individuals and service providers such as banks, outside accountants, auditors, landlords, consultants, company advisors, and commercial insurance providers.
  • Works with management to identify means of maximizing productivity across the organization through accounting system and procedural enhancements, and manage the implementation of those enhancements.
  • Works with management to identify and implement operational best practices.
  • Assists in the development of financial and tax strategies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of developments in the field of accountancy, auditing and reporting, and alert management of opportunities and threats related to those developments.

 

Financial Operations and Recodkeeping

  • Maintains the company’s finance and accounting intranet page including calendars, forms, and accounting policies.
  • Accurately records and accounts for all fixed assets.
  • Maintains an orderly accounting filing system and system of controls over accounting transactions.

 

Compliance

  • Collaborates with management and the IT department to leverage technology to improve productivity and enhance the experience of both internal and external customers.
  • Coordinates the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Complies with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. Works with outside accountants to ensure timely and accurately income tax filings.
  • Stays abreast of office and company policies, procedures, and practices; participates in ongoing training and development as assigned or approved to assure knowledge and skills remain current and comprehensive.

Job Requirements

Experience in multi-currency, purchase accounting, international environment including intercompany consolidations and eliminations.    Strong general ledger, audit, income tax and internal control knowledge.

Baccalaureate degree required with CPA; MBA or MS is preferred; 7 years directly relevant industry experience, including experience at the managerial level; Strong background with systems and documentation of controls; excellent written and oral business communication skills; strong organizational and time management skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications; experience in GP, FAS strongly preferred; advanced mathematical and accounting skills and basic statistical skills; skills in analysis, interpretation, synthesis and reporting of highly technical financial data; gross and fine motor skills; trustworthiness, integrity, and personal accountability; problem-solving; sound judgment and objectivity; care, compassion, adherence to standards of ethical behavior and professional conduct, and respect for co-workers and clients; commitment to professional and personal growth and development; commitment to continuous improvement; team-oriented work style.
